St. George is a town of hidden gems, and when it comes to coffee, there are plenty of places to go if you are seeking the perfect cup. Coffee isn’t just about the taste; it’s about the experience.

So without further ado, here are some of the go-to coffee spots in St. George for many students to study, relax and gather around a table with friends or a good book.

Holy Grounds

Located at Utah Tech University, Holy Grounds has cemented itself as one of the go-to places for a butter beer cold brew and pumpkin spice chai. Located in the Brooks’ Stop, Holy Grounds is a locally owned and operated business dedicated to keeping students caffeinated with coffee and tea.

Owners Ashley and Jason Johns started as a coffee truck in a northern Utah outlet mall. As of now, their only location is in Brooks’ Stop, which means they also offer a tax-exempt discount through Bison Bucks if you pay using your student ID. The smell of quality roasted coffee, mixed with the Brooks’ Stop charm, creates a perfect place for students to hang out or spend some time studying.

“We believe in having good quality coffee over a sugar shack,” Ashley Johns said. “We want good flavor without losing the flavor of coffee.”

Shailee Bundy, a senior integrated studies major from St. George, said: “They have me hooked on the hot chai. It gives me a sense of nostalgia like when I drink hot chocolate. It’s a good drink to have when I sit down to do work.”

Farmstead

Competitors to comrades? Owners Chris Connors and Chris Herrin worked together to open Farmstead after meeting over 13 years ago in Nevada.

Farmstead’s slogan “Passion Through Pastry” is shown in its array of fresh bakery selections. Their passion is also shown through their love of quality roasted coffee. Located in downtown St. George, Farmstead has become a local favorite and is a go-to place to visit in the Historic District.

“My favorite drink is the matcha cooler because it is so refreshing,” Aislynn Koehler, a sophomore digital film major from West Valley, said. “My go-to food item is the raspberry pistachio cake but it was discontinued. Now I get the fruit tart because the crust is amazing.”

Cafe FeelLove

Can you feel the love? Cafe FeelLove is a rare gem that brings tasteful treats and even more tasteful decorations literally to the table. From vintage tables and couches to a Victorian-grandma vibe, Cafe FeelLove brings the best of both worlds for those who love to study and spend quality time with friends over a nice atmosphere and even better food and drinks.

Emily Butler, a junior biology education major from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, said: “My go-to coffee is the Vaughn Gogh with oat milk, which consists of honey, vanilla, caramel and espresso. It is the perfect blend of sweetness without overpowering the coffee flavor. My absolute favorite food is the fried pita chips and hummus. It is deliciously fried, but not oily, and the hummus is delightful.”

Switchpoint

Located on Red Hills Parkway, Switchpoint Coffee Co. lies right next to their boutique and is an extension of the original company that continues to fight to end poverty. So much that 100% of the proceeds of coffee bean purchases go toward fighting to end poverty and sheltering people.

Supporting small businesses like Switchpoint is just one way to make a difference, all the while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.

On the Switchpoint Coffee Co. website, it said, “We have provided 366 permanent housing units, offering a home to 515 people, with more on the horizon in 2024.”

Gaia’s Garden Cafe

On the edge of downtown St George, located at Gaia’s Garden Cafe, you can hear the birds chirping in the trees as the smell of roasted coffee and fresh vegan food encases you in stress-free bliss.

This quaint cafe is one of the few places in St. George that has plenty of vegan options. So whether you are looking for a salad for brunch or a matcha latte as a sweet treat, Gaia’s Garden Cafe brings earthy cottage-core vibes to our beautiful city.

Colin Lloyd, a junior earth, energy and environmental science major from Salt Lake City, said: “My friend suggested [Gaias] to me to try the matcha latte and it was very good. I enjoy cafe vibes and it was super earthy and welcoming.”

All in all, these restaurants not only radiate their good vibes and energy, but they also reflect the beauty that is St. George. Supporting local businesses is just one of the ways we can give back to the people who make this town enjoyable.

Whether you go to cafes to enjoy a fresh pastry and read a book by the window, or to enjoy a coffee in the afternoon while you do homework, all of these cafes offer a unique vibe specific to them. Go out and share the love.
