Flyers Soar In Cedar To Steal Homecoming

The Dixie Flyers soared into Cedar City tonight to pick up a huge Region 9 victory and spoil Cedar’s Homecoming game.

The Flyers got on the board early in the game. The Redmen forced a punt, but then fumbled it, only to be recoverd by Dixie inside the 10 yard line. Justin Cummings then ran the ball in for the touchdown to give the Flyers the 7-0 lead.

After forcing a three-and-out of their own, Dixie went back to work on the offensive side of the ball. This time quarterback Blake Barney ran the ball in for the touchdown to give Dixie a 14-0 lead.

The Redmen battled back to score a touchdown of their own when a pass from quarterback John Ursua landed in the hands of Braiden French. The Redmen missed the extra point, and went into the half down 14-6. The missed extra point attempts by the Redmen may have been the difference maker in the game. The Flyers managed to hold on the second half to escape Cedar with the 28-26 victory.

With the win, the Flyers moved into third place in Region 9, and now trail only the Desert Hills Thunder, and the undefeated Hurricane Tigers. The Tigers had a bye this week, while the Thunder visited Snow Canyon. Desert Hills managed to slip past the Warriors 24-21 to remain unbeaten in region play.

Also in Region 9 play, the Panthers of Pine View finally got their first Region win of the season against Canyon View. The Panthers ran away from the Falcons 49-0. Canyon View has still only scored two points in Region 9 games this season.
