Dixie State College boys dance to their own beat.

As Homecoming approaches, so does the Powderpuff football game and the halftime entertainment: The Rebelinas.

The Rebelinas is the male dance team made up of six guys who want to perform.

Miranda Jones, a sophomore biology major from Kaysville, is a member of the women’s dance team, the Rebelettes, and is also in charge of teaching the boys.

“We practice a few times a week,” Jones said. “And it is always pretty entertaining to watch them try.”

Jones said that every good performance takes a lot of talent, but mostly a lot of hard work and commitment.

“When we originally put the team together, we anticipated that certain people would eventually drop out or quit,” Jones said. “It’s always expected to have a few of those.”

Jones said they originally had 10 boys, but four dropped out. However, the ones who stayed have continued to be consistent and excited.

“You can tell which ones really want to be here,” Jones said.

Jones also said that a costume can make or break the performance.

“I’m really excited to see what we finally decide to have them wear,” Jones said. “It’s like playing dress up with the boys.”

The Rebelinas are currently working on a routine to perform at halftime for the Powderpuff football game.

“[The halftime show] will be epic,” said Mike Sheffield, a senior business major from St. George. “We’ve been working really hard to show the school what we’ve got.”

Sheffield is one of the dance members and said they are more than ready, and they can’t wait to perform.

“We were born to perform!” Sheffield said.

The game starts Oct. 25, 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Hansen Stadium.

“I didn’t work hard for nothing,” Sheffield said. “People better come and support us.”
