DSU shut out Chaminade University 4-0 on Monday. DSU scored one goal in the first half and three in the second to defeate CU.

The Storm earned its second road conference win Saturday afternoon in the rains of Hawaii. The close match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Storm.

Sophomore forward Aubri Detmer and junior midfielder Kaisa Rogers scored the goals. It was the first goal of the season for each of the players.

“I was so excited,” said Rogers, a communication major from Springville. “Before I took the shot, I knew it was going in the back of the net. It was the best feeling ever.”

Detmer’s goal came early in the game during the 6th minute of play off a free kick and pass from Rogers. Detmer put it away past the keeper on the far post.

DSU was unable to hold on to the lead as one of its defenders was stripped of the ball with five minutes left in the half. BYU-Hawaii scored to tie the match.

Freshman keeper Danica Nusink gave a great performance in the second half to hold BYU-H to only the one goal. She made two saves early in the half when BYU-H was attacking with pressure. Nusink had six saves overall for the game.

The game was tightly fought by both teams, but DSU came out on top in the 79th minute when Rogers put away the game winner. Rogers scored after a pass from junior forward Erica Gonzalez.

“The team is really excited.” Rogers said. “We haven’t beat BYU-Hawaii in a long time, so we were stoked. That game gave us really good momentum.”

The win gives DSU an overall record of 4-4-1 and a conference record of 2-1-0.

The Storm play Hawaii Pacific University Thursday in Kaneohe, Hawaii at 7 p.m.
