As of Wednesday Dec. 12 Utah breaks records by obtaining over 10,000 daily COVID-19 cases. With cases rising, testing sites are hit with high demands, even causing a St. George test site to close down.

As of Jan. 18 Utah has a total of 790,375 reported COVID-19 cases and 3,979 reported deaths from COVID-19. This is the highest Utah cases have been since the start of the pandemic. According to data from The New York Times on Dec. 18, 2020 the 7-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Utah was 2,631. The same data shows that the current 7-day average of positive COVID-19 cases in Utah is 10,603. 728 Utahns are currently hospitalized from COVID-19.

Despite the cases rising quickly only 60% of Utahns remain fully vaccinated.

The Utah health department released a statement recommending Utahns to assume they have COVID-19 if they show any symptoms and to stay at home for five days instead of getting tested. The health department believes this will reduce the crowding in testing sites and will reduce the spread of Omicron.

To keep Americans safe President Biden and his administration worked together to create a website where citizens can sign up to get four free at-home COVID-19 tests per household mailed to your home. This will help reduce crowded testing sites throughout the US.

Governor Cox recommends all Utahns to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the Omicron variant.
