Pumpkin spice has taken over America. Its perfect blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves brings fall into a room.
Whether it’s candles or Starbucks, people go crazy for the seasonal items. Companies have caught on to the pumpkin spice craze and are coming out with more and more products that get crazier and crazier.
Toilet paper
Green Meadow Valley came out with pumpkin spice toilet paper in 2019. The actual paper isn’t scented, but the roll is. Reviews talk about the warm fall scent the roll brings to the bathroom.
When I am in the bathroom, the last thing I’m concerned with is how the toilet paper smells. If you want the scent in the bathroom, light a candle or buy an air freshener.
The toilet paper roll costs about $7. That’s very expensive for one roll of toilet paper that lasts maybe a week. You can find a pumpkin spice candle for $6 that would last a lot longer and give a fresher scent.
This product is no longer available, but the fact it existed is concerning.
Dude Wipes
Pumpkin spice toilet paper might not still be a thing, but pumpkin spice dude wipes are currently on the market. They named this scent “Dumpkin Spice.”
Reviews for Dude Wipes rave about their lack of scent, but now they have introduced a fall-scented wipe.
The purpose of a wipe is to make sure you’re clean down there. It is not to smell like fall and add to the magic. If I use Dude Wipes, I don’t want to be transported into the season. I want to wipe myself and get out of the bathroom.
Pet products
Our pets do not need pumpkin spice products. It is actually harmful to dogs and cats. Certain spices present in the flavor can cause hallucinations, vomiting and other serious health issues. Pumpkin contains health benefits for both, but the spices in pumpkin spice pose a risk.
There are several seasonal dog foods that are pumpkin spice flavors. Not only is it a risk, but what is the point of getting pumpkin spice food for your dog? Dog foods are traditionally meat flavored. This is what most dogs like. My dog goes crazy when we have meat on the table, as do most dogs I know. They don’t care about seasonal pumpkin spice. The food is more for the owner than the pet.
There is also pumpkin spice cat litter. While cats don’t traditionally eat their litter, things happen. The toxic spice elements can get on their paws, or they could accidentally eat something harmful. This is a risk. It also makes no sense to have pumpkin spice litter. Fresh and clean scents are perfect for litter. Why create a fall scented one when it is completely unnecessary?
Garbage bags
Is fall trash different from the rest of the year? No. Why do we need it to smell different?
Garbage bags are meant to be scented. It helps mask the odor from the garbage. Light, clean scents such as lemon or lavender are perfect for the trash. Pumpkin spice has a much heavier scent, and it does not belong on a garbage bag.
Several reviews argue that the scent wasn’t even that strong on the bags. The product is a waste of money, and the bags don’t even give the scent they are supposed to.
Kraft mac and cheese
Pumpkin spice mac and cheese. This is by far the worst product on the list. It started in Canada as an experiment in 2020. It then spread to America after supposedly good reviews from Canada.
Kraft mac and cheese is known for being a quick and easy meal. Its delectable cheesy flavor and fast preparation time have kept it on the market. People don’t want it because it’s fancy.
However, somebody decided they needed to make Kraft fancier. They added pumpkin spice. It was a terrible idea. Reviews said it was overly sweet and that the cheese and spice flavors clashed. Of course, they did. Whoever decided to mix cheese and pumpkin spice, clearly wasn’t thinking.
Pumpkin spice is a fun fall tradition. There are many good fall products that people look forward to every year. However, the craze has gone too far, and some companies need to be stopped.
