Utah Tech men’s soccer and cross country ended their seasons this week. Volleyball and football are looking toward their final few games, while men’s and women’s basketball continue into the preseason.

Men’s soccer

UT fell to Grand Canyon University in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament in Riverside, California. Despite shooting on goal only four times, GCU shut out the Trailblazers in the first half 0-2. They tacked on three more goals in the second half, completing the shutout.

The Trailblazers end the season 4-7-6, having gone 3-1-3 in conference play.

Women’s basketball

Women’s basketball split the game docket this week with a win against the University of Nebraska Omaha and a loss to Weber State University.

On Nov. 12, Kaylee Borden led UT with 13 points, a block and a steal in the win over Omaha. The bench came alive to contribute 20 of the team’s 62 points in the six-point win.

The Trailblazers would fall short Nov. 15 with a six-point loss at Webster State. Despite 21 and 17 point performances from Borden and redshirt senior Maddie Warren, the Wildcats offense scored 32 points in the fourth quarter to snuff the Trailblazers out.

They’ll take on Portland State University Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.

Men’s basketball

The team traveled to Hawai’i for the OUTRIGGER Rainbow Classic and lost two of their three games.

Their first loss came to Manhattan University Nov. 12 despite four Trailblazers scoring double digits. Senior Ethan Potter led the team with a 22-point and 11-rebound double-double.

UT jumped to the win column Nov. 14 with a double overtime win against Mississippi Valley State University. Potter led the Trailblazers with another double-double, and the defense held Mississippi Valley State to only two points in the second overtime to secure the win.

The next day, Utah Tech lost its final game to the University of Hawai’i, where Potter once again led the team with 15 points.

The Trailblazers will return to St. George Nov. 21 to play Nobel University.

Volleyball

It was senior day in the Burns Arena Nov. 15, and Trailblazer volleyball recorded their 12th sweep of the season.

Emery Harrison and Casidy Fried led the offense with 12 and seven kills, respectively, while libero Mya Laufiso anchored the defense with 12 digs.

At the end of the game, senior Kennedi Knudsen was honored as Utah Tech’s all-time kills leader with 975 career kills.

The team now looks ahead to the WAC volleyball tournament, where they will face Southern Utah University Nov. 20 in Abilene, Texas.

Cross country

Men’s and women’s cross country traveled to Sacramento, California, for the NCAA West Regional Championships.

Makayla Pitcher and Averie Perriton each finished in the top 100 and contributed to the women’s team earning 622 total points. Overall, they placed 20th out of 30 teams.

On the men’s side, Ryan Hatch posted an 86th-place finish, and his 31:10.7 time was the second-fastest 10K time in UT history. The team still landed 24th out of the 30 competing teams. This marks the end of the season for cross country.

Football

The Trailblazers lost to the University of Western Georgia in a shutout on the road. The Wolves’ defense smothered UT and kept quarterback Bronson Barben at just 141 passing yards and one interception.

Asa Chatman and Bretton Stone led the rush with 35 and 33 yards each, contributing to the 143 total rushing yards. Despite over 280 total yards of offense, the Trailblazers were unable to score. They look ahead to senior night Nov. 22 against Eastern Kentucky University.
