Harrisburg Fire

UPDATE: The Harrisburg fire is now 100 percent contained. Highway 91 south of Harrisburg and Highway 318 is reopened. Fire vehicles and personnel will remain in the area, so please use caution if you are traveling there.

Original story: Crews are battling a fire that has currently burned more than 200 acres and is still burning. Pete Kuhlmann with Washington County Emergency Services told SUN News that the fire is currently not threatening any structures.

State Road 318 from the Quail Creek Campground to the Old 91 junction south of Harrisburg is closed, as well as Old 91 from the Hurricane industrial park to the Harrisburg area.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation. Crews have started to back-burn unused fuels in strategic places to hold the fire at that point. “If the weather holds we should be able to hold the fire to the south side of 318,” Kuhlmann said. Crews will be on scene throughout the night and into the next couple of days to ensure the fire is out. Stay with SUN News for the latest on the Harrisburg Fire.
