Research in Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry tablet and smartphone, announced Monday that they will be cutting 2,000 jobs in order to preserve a financially sound future for the company.
RIM says the company became too large and the growth seemingly outweighed opportunity while competing with other companies. The company began the job cuts Monday, starting in Canada.
The decisions fall in line with the “cost optimization program.” This program is focused on eliminating redundancies and reallocating resources to focus on areas that offer the highest growth opportunities. The makers of BlackBerry said the layoffs are a prudent and necessary step for their long-term success of the company.
The company is currently seeking other ways to lower cost and streamline production.
