Dixie Metal Recycling Fire

Share This:

Metal cutting in southern Utah has lead to another fire, except this time fire officials say, it was completely legal and under regulations.

Dispatch received a report Thursday around 11:30 that an explosion had erupted at Dixie Metal Recycling located in Fort Pierce Industrial park. The company had just purchased two 10,000 gallon heating oil tanks and were in the process of dismantling them when residual fuel in the tanks caught fire and exploded. St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker told SUN News, “Employees of the plant took the right precautions.”

No structures were damaged during the event and crews are still cleaning up leaked oil.
