Thunder upset Warriors at Homecoming

The Snow Canyon Warriors welcomed the Desert Hills Thunder for a homecoming match-up and fought it out until the very end.

The Thunder’s Ty Rutlidge started off with a 10-yard pass from Porter Harris. Snow Canyon was able to put up a 22 yard field goal after a penalty filled drive. A 29-yard field goal answer from Desert Hills started the second quarter. Snow Canyon’s Cooper Robinson returned a kick 95 yards to put 7 on the board followed by a 46-yard field goal by Benavides, giving Snow Canyon a lead of 13-10 at the break.

After all the homecoming celebration including a fireworks display, the Thunder struck. In the third quarter Mike Needham scored two touchdowns to give the Thunder a 24-13 lead. The Thunder defense was strong and held the Warriors scoreless in the second half until the fourth. Livingston was able to hook up on a nine yard pass from Brayden Linde. After a successful two point conversion the final score was 24-21 for Desert Hills. 

The Thunder’s Mike Needham ran for 145 yards on 18 carries and scored the only second half points for Desert Hills. Cooper Robinson of Snow Canyon must be recognized for the outstanding 95-yard kick return in the second quarter.
