Local radio personality Jon Smith, host of “The Jon Smith Show” on 95.9 The Hawk, is taking his job out of the office, for a very special opportunity.

Smith boarded a plane headed for Baghdad Friday morning, where he will spend time with Southern Utah’s very own Utah Army National Guard’s 213th Forward Support Group, and 222nd Field Artillery team in Iraq.

This isn’t Smith’s first time on the war-front. He was previously embedded with U.S. troops in 2008 and 2009.

Not only will he be delivering messages from home to the soldiers, but he will be doing the “Jon Smith Show: Live from Baghdad” from 6-10 a.m. from October 17-21. This will give families and friends of military members an opportunity to hear shout-outs from their loved ones overseas.

Smith is taking a couple very special gifts to deliver to the troops, such as an American flag given to him by Congressman Jim Matheson. The flag was flown over Washington D.C. in honor of our troops. Along with the flag, he is also taking a banner covered with personal messages from friends and families around southern Utah.
