Football drops another to Western Oregon

The Storm almost pulled off their first win against Western Oregon University, but came up short due to lack of follow-through in the red zone.

WOU defeated Dixie 19-14 on Saturday but not without a fight.

Western Oregon moved the ball down the field but couldn’t follow through to put points on the board until the last six minutes in the first quarter. Dixie’s defense was key early in the game, only allowing WOU a field goal.

The Wolves came back to Dixie’s side of the field with a 28-yard pass to the end zone three minutes later. WOU missed the field goal and came to a 9-0 lead over the Storm.

The second quarter followed the layout of the first as WOU moved down the field to score a three-yard touchdown on the Storm.

Dixie finally found its momentum with a fumble recovery by freshman defensive back Nate Perry. Perry rushed for 11 yards into Wolves territory to score the first touchdown for the Storm. The Storm decreased its deficit, only trailing WOU by three by half.

Dixie came back from halftime strong as senior quarterback Ben Longshore threw for seven yards to senior wide receiver Conor Sklarsky for yet another touchdown.

But DSU couldn’t hold off the pack as the Wolves returned with a field goal to end the game 19-14.

The Storm match-up against Azusa Pacific yet again on the road Saturday at 7 p.m. in Glendora, California.
