Dixie State University men’s soccer continued its winning streak after a 1-0 victory against BYU-Hawaii Saturday.
The Trailblazers maintain a perfect record in the Pacific West Conference after PacWest Freshman of the Week Moises Medina, a general studies major from Mesquite, Nevada, scored the lone goal of the match late in the first half. Medina’s third game-winning goal led DSU to its seventh straight victory of the season.
Freshman midfielder Jandir Porta, a computer science major from West Valley, said the Trailblazers’ hard work is starting to show.
“We practice every day at a very high level [of intensity] to be ready for games,” Porta said. “Everyone plays a big role on the team, and the [game] results are showing that.”
Strong defense from both teams resulted in seven saves by the Seasiders and five by the Trailblazers.
“Our defense played a huge role in the game,” said redshirt freshman Christian Hall, a marketing major from Layton. “The back line was solid, like usual, and made some massive stops that definitely changed the game.”
Dixie State was led defensively by redshirt freshman Zach Nielson, as he denied five shots en route to his first shutout victory of the year.
DSU looks to continue its winning streak taking on Hawaii Pacific University Monday.
