Dixie State University men’s soccer stayed undefeated in the Pacific West Conference after bringing down Hawaii Hilo University Thursday and Chaminade University of Honolulu Saturday.

The Trailblazers remained perfect, setting their record at 8-0 in the PacWest and have won 10 games in a row.

The rain did not stop DSU to get a 3-0 victory against the Vulcans.

Freshman forward Moises Medina scored the first goal after receiving a pass from freshman midfielder Gustavo Ortega right before the first half came to an end.

Junior midfielder Sean Jenne took control of the ball and scored another goal in the 51st minute.

Medina was the star of the match after scoring the third goal in the 68th minute giving the Trailblazers the victory.

“The rain made the field really slick, so it took us a couple of minutes to get used to it,” said defender Dominic Domato, a sophomore criminal justice major from Las Vegas. “When we finally found our rhythm we were putting them on pressure, dominating the game and keeping possession of the ball almost the entire time.”

The Trailblazers culminated their trip to Hawaii bringing home another win against the Silverswords 4-1.

“We came into the game expecting a tough battle from Chaminade as they were on a hot streak and in second place,” said midfielder Gabby Medina, a sophomore finance major, from Mesquite, Nevada.

The Trailblazers scored their first goal against the Silverswords in the 16th minute, when senior defender Hunter Ketterer scored his first goal of the season off an assist from junior defender Bryan Baugh.

Half way through the first half, the Trailblazers got a 2-0 lead when Medina scored off a blast from 25-yards out.

Gabby Medina said they were told to come out strong and put the game away. Junior forward Ather Dawood brought the score to 3-0 in the 60th minute from a pass Moises Medina made.

“The games were played really well, we took care of business and finished out the Hawaiian trip strong,” said midfielder Kris Evans, a senior communications major from Draper.

The match was at the 74th minute when freshman forward Christian Hall stepped up and notched one more goal to stamp the win. Chaminade took advantage and scored one goal back just 22 seconds after the Trailblazers’s fourth goal, making the final score 4-1.

“The team was excited to be in Hawaii but they kept their focus on what it really matter which was putting effort in the games to get results,” head coach Tim Busen said. “Even though when you think of Hawaii, you think of vacation, I was happy to see that the team did not get distracted and it’s what brought them together as a team and compete really well.”

DSU will end its 2016 season with five home games starting Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Academy of Art.
