All six of the four-year Utah collegiate football programs visited the Utah state capitol Thursday to meet with and talk to members of the Republican caucus.

Among coaches like Kyle Whittingham at the University of Utah and Kelani Sitake at Brigham Young University, sat Shay McClure, head coach at Dixie State University.

Sixty-two elected representatives from various districts gathered in the House Majority Caucus room. Instead of politicians, these men and women were fans just like anyone else.

Of the six coaches, McClure was the final one to address the caucus.

“We are excited and honored to be here,” McClure said. “The biggest thing [we accomplished] this year was truly changing the identity of our program. We have great young men in our program that represent the university both on and off the field. Wins and losses are great, but our kids and [their character] is what we are most proud of.”

He concluded his statements with an invitation to everyone in the room.

“We want to welcome any of you who want to come down to St. George and get out of this cold and see what we are all about,” McClure said.
