St. George has a new shaved ice shop where students can go to cool off and show their pride for Dixie State University with the brand new specialty shaved ice flavor, “The Trailblazer!”.

“We had the idea to make [“The Trailblazer!”] because we wanted to have a new flavor while being able to promote our university,”

Don Willie, the founder of Famous Yeti Shaved Ice and DSU’s executive director of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship center, said “The Trailblazer!” was added to the menu in August. It contains a mix of raspberry, strawberry and the Famous Yeti Shaved Ice signature: coconut cream topping. This treat is a great way to show your Trailblazer pride and to support a local business.

Willie said he recently reached out to the DSU marketing team to find out what shaved ice flavor would best represent the school. Through trial and error, they produced the “The Trailblazer!”.

“We had the idea to make [“The Trailblazer!”] because we wanted to have a new flavor while being able to promote our university,” Willie said.

Willie said he’s had multiple people order the specialty shaved ice.

“The Trailblazer has been my favorite one so far” said Justin Warick, a St. George resident. “You expect the snow-cone to be really sugary but it wasn’t overwhelming.”

The shop is full of friendly faces willing to help and serve their customers with a sweet treat. Willie uses promotions such as the Starving Student Card and two-dollar Tuesdays to attract a wide variety of customers.

“It’s a nice little stand with pleasant people working in it,” says Andrew Austin, a junior business major from Tooele. “The coconut cream topping is what really ties it all together.”

Famous Yeti Shaved Ice is located at 2928 S. Mall Drive in Lin’s parking lot. They are open seasonally from April through October. Their hours are Monday-Friday from 4 p.m-10 p.m, Saturday from 11 a.m-10 p.m, closed Sunday. Weekday hours are extended to 11 a.m-10 p.m during the summer.
