Utah Tech University’s football head coach Paul Peterson announced the addition of two new coaches along with the promotion of four current coaches Jan 23. for the 2023 fall season.
Peterson said these changes to the coaching staff are only going to improve the team moving forward.
The new arrangement of coaches is as follows:
- John Hughes as offensive line coach
- Peter Tuitupou as wide receivers coach
- Billy Ray Stutzman as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach
- Jamison Clark as running back coach and recruiting coordinator
- James Cowser as defensive line coach
- J.B. Hall Jr. as defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach
Hughes, senior staff member, was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach following his previous four successful seasons as Utah Tech’s offensive line coach.
“Our biggest goal right now is to continue to build, develop these young men, and keep the progress of the end of last season going,” Hughes said. “This new coaching opportunity allows me to put my stamp on the team and really get my hands dirty inside of the game plans.”
Tuitupou, Stutzman, Clark and Hughes are the four coaches that have been promoted coming the 2023 football season.
Cowser came to Utah Tech from Weber State University after three seasons of serving as a defensive ends coach.
Hall Jr. came to Utah Tech from Georgia Institute of Technology where he served as a special teams analyst and an interim assistant coach during the second half of the 2022 season.
“We all speak the same language as long as player development goes, so it was time for our senior coaches to be promoted and hire fantastic people,” Peterson said. “Staying consistent in what we want to do, offensively and defensively, will allow us to take the next step in putting the pieces of the coaching puzzle together.”
As Utah Tech University has switched from NCAA Division II to Division I, many coaching adjustments have been made. Every adjustment has been made in the interest of improving the football team and each individual player.
Peterson said: “We have really good guys on our staff that are able to help student-athletes maximize their full potential. We’re going to have some fun teams come and play at home and expect to continue this season on a winning trajectory.”
The coaches will have time to prepare as the 2023 season doesn’t begin until the Trailblazers face off against Montana State University Sept. 2.
