Highway 91 Fire Burns 215 Acres

Update: The Anasazi Wildfire is fully contained. The blaze burned over the weekend on Old Highway 91 near Kayenta.

The Anasazi Wildfire started just after noon on Saturday and has burned 215 acres. One 20 person hand crew is on the ground fighting the blaze with two helicopters in the air, three single engine air tankers, and 13 wildland fire engines.

As of 7:00 p.m. the fire is 40% contained. The blaze is believed to be human caused due to the grinding of metal. No structures are reported in danger. Though parts of Highway 91 have been shut down, no evacuations are in effect.

Highway 91 is no longer being diverted and crews expect to have the fire completely contained on the 24th.
