A Cedar City man drowned Sunday while swimming with his daughter at the Lake at the Hills in Iron County.

Cedar City Police responded to the report of a swimmer who did not resurface around 1:30 p.m. Authorities confirmed that 38-year-old Clayton Price was swimming with his 8-year-old daughter when he pushed her away and dipped below the water.

After a search for Price was conducted without success, dive crews from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office took over the search. They located Price’s body roughly 40 feet from where he had been swimming.

Cedar City Police released a statement saying, “Swimming at the Lake at the Hills is permitted within designated swim area; however, water activities are at the risk of those participating given there no lifeguards.”

This is the first drowning incident at the Lake at the Hills since it opened in March 2011.
