Women’s soccer faces Cal Poly Pomona Saturday after wins against SLCC, Paradise Valley

The Dixie State College women’s soccer team has had a great start with the Cal Poly Pomona game quickly underway.

The team was brought together two weeks before the first away game, and they have had to work together speedily.

Not only did they come together just one day before the first scrimmage game, but also the team has had to stretch beyond their comfort zone and work well together.

“We have had two-a-days,” freshman midfielder Mckenna Jared, a dental hygiene major from Cedar Hills, said. “And I think that really helped because we were all together so much. A lot of us hang out together outside of soccer and everyone is outgoing so it makes it easier.”

The Red Storm’s first scrimmage game against Paradise Valley was expected to be a challenge.

“Paradise Valley has been a national champion,” head coach Linda Huddleston said. “And they will give us a good  game.”

Huddleston said she noticed technical ability, passing, hustle and heart when it came to her team’s strengths.

Making that final goal for the Red Storm resulted in victory, which ended the game with the score of 3-2.

Building a winning team has taken weeks for other teams, but this soccer team has managed to do it in only one day.

“Players have been working on their own, but as a team we just started,” Huddleston said.

After winning the second game 5-0 against Salt Lake Community College, the team had high confidence on the soccer field.

But will this be enough for DSC’s away game against Cal Poly?

“We have played Cal Poly a couple of times before,” Huddleston said, “I’m excited because it’s a great competition and a good showing for my team.”

Having home field advantage is no longer an option coming this game. They will have to rely solely on the team and mindset.

The expectations of these scrimmages are high. The Red Storm play in their first away game against Cal Poly on Saturday.
