The Dixie State University tennis team hosted its first match on its own court this year against Southern Utah University in an 8-1 defeat on Thursday.
Prior to its match Thursday, DSU came in having won three of the last four in a recent tournament in Glendale, Ariz., last weekend.
“The girls played a good hard match,” head coach Eric Pelton said. “They came out a little slow in the doubles, but they picked up their play in the singles.”
Dixie State’s No. 1 singles player sophomore Joy Naigeon and No. 2 junior Stormy Dvorak both lost their singles matches 6-1, 6-1.
Half of SUU’s team, three of six, are from Russia, so it was only fitting when the Storm’s only victory came from Serbian Zenja Draca, who beat former Dixie State player senior Sarah Lundin in a three set match, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman No. 4 singles match player Summer Child also dropped her match 6-1, 6-1. But she still sees the positives in her play against SUU sophomore Anastasia Vasileva.
