Letter to the Editor: DSUSA candidate’s use of sex appeal offensive

Placed directly in front of the Jeffrey R. Holland Centennial Commons, where all prospective students and their parents can see, was a campaign poster for Cajun Syrett, a candidate for vice president of clubs. On this poster was a photo of Syrett with his shirt unbuttoned and his rock-hard eight-pack exposed.

Obviously, he was utilizing sex appeal to earn votes from the young females on campus. I’m concerned this was even approved for posting.

Imagine if a woman were in this same pose, shirt open with breasts exposed; this would in no way be acceptable.

This perpetuates the idea that students at Dixie State University are party-oriented and unintelligent. Is this how we want to represent our school? As a female student, I find it offensive that my sexuality is being used to earn votes.
