The Trailblazers have now won two games in a row.

Dixie State University gained a total of 470 yards and cruised to a 44-27 victory over the Chadron State College Eagles Saturday.

DSU struck early and often against the Eagles, who came into the matchup with a 1-4 record. The Trailblazers scored a touchdown on their first possession of the game as freshman quarterback Josh Thompson hooked up with sophomore running back Orlando Wallace for an 11-yard touchdown.

DSU kept things rolling from there as they would score 31 more unanswered points to take a commanding 38-0 lead.

The Trailblazers were led offensively by senior running back Dejon Coleman, who rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown on 24 attempts.

“We knew we had to be effective on the ground,” said Coleman, a sociology major from Los Angeles. “Our offensive line matched up well with their defensive line. We wanted to come in and make a spark to let [CSC] we were there to play.”

CSC finally got on the board late in the third quarter, but the comeback effort was thwarted and DSU went on to win 44-27.

“I thought the kids are out and played well,” head coach Shay McClure said. “We were really good on third down on offense and on defense and when you put both of those together, that’s the formula to win football games.”

DSU will now take on Colorado Mesa University next Saturday in Grand Junction, Colorado before returning home for homecoming Oct. 22.
