For the first time in Dixie State University’s history, the Institute of Politics is in charge of the student elections process.
The IOP already had its first informational meeting for candidates on Feb. 8 and plan to have another on Feb. 11. This informational meeting will be for those who wish to run and have questions regarding the application process.
Positions up for election
Student Body President: The chief executive officer for the Dixie State University Student Association and represents the collective voice of the student body in numerous capacities whose responsibilities include:
- Completing 375 hours per semester, averaging 25 hours per week
- Sitting as a member of the Board of Trustees
- Oversee all budgets for DSUSA and more
Vice President of Academics: Serves as a member of the student association executive counsel and is a liaison for all academic departments whose responsibilities include:
- Complete 300 hours per semester, averaging 20 hours per week
- Organize senate bills and maintain an accurate and current record of all bills
- Oversee senate budget and allocated bill fund distribution and more
Vice President of Clubs and Organization: Serves as a member of the student association executive council and is a liaison between the council and all student clubs and organizations whose responsibilities include:
- Complete 300 hours per semester, averaging 20 hours per week
- Oversee Inter-club council meetings
- Distribute funds (merit money) to clubs and more
All applications for the positions will be due Feb. 12 at 5 p.m.
Who Qualifies To Run?
- Students who have a minimum of 12 DSU credits each semester in office
- Students who maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA each semester in office
What to submit for your application
Each applicant must submit the following through blazerlink to officially be entered to run:
- A letter of intent (A statement of purpose/application essay)
- A resume
- A photo of yourself
- A paragraph of five sentences describing you and your platform
The following must be submitted to IOP Director Vince Brown:
- Two letters of recommendation
- Petition of 100 current students (name and D number of 100 students who will support your campaign)
- Official Transcript
- $100 refundable deposit (cash or check)
- Signed election packet agreement (packet can be picked up at student government before the application deadline)
Campaigning begins Feb. 29.
