A 5% tuition increase was voted through the Dixie State University Board of Trustees March 5 that will now move to the State Board of Higher Education for approval.

The 5% increase will start in the fall semester of 2021 with tuition absorbing eight student fees. The Student Fee Advisory Board proposed a 5% decrease in student fees for the 2021-2022 school year, which the DSU Board of Trustees voted to accept.

The following student fees will be absorbed into tuition costs:

  • IT Support
  • Testing Center
  • Tutoring Center
  • Radio and Broadcast Advertising
  • Fine Arts (Half is moving to tuition)
  • Writing Center
  • Dixie Sun News
  • Automated External Defibrillator

David Clark, chair of the Board of Trustees, said: “It’s not very often we get to vote on a decrease overall in fee structure. I realize some of it has moved, [but] it’s still a decrease.”

The 5% increase would be used for the following:

  • Full-time base compensation: 3% salary increase and health insurance (1.29%)
  • Risk management insurance premium increase (.14%)
  • Academic and administrative student fees added (1.2%)
  • Faculty rank advancements (.57%)
  • Part-time faculty and staff hourly wage increase (1.30%)
  • Public relations increase (.5%)

“DSU is the least expensive when you are looking at tuition and fees, regardless of these increases,” said Paul Morris, vice president of administrative affairs.
