Dorothy Jane Bateman Blair

St. George, Utah – Dorothy Jane (Janie) Bateman Blair was born December 17, 1916 in Decatur, Illinois to Bertha Beatrice (Betsy) Bateman Coombes and Lester Bateman. Janie, her sister Mimi, and brother Billy moved to Los Angeles, CA with their mother in the early 1920’s.

She graduated from LA High School in 1935 and immediately went to work at the Hal Roach Movie Studios in LA. Jane’s span of over 65 years in the entertainment industry started with Columbia Pictures in 1938 as an accountant, then continuing on at the Burbank Studios, and Warner Brothers Studios. She retired from Warner Brothers Studios as the senior production auditor at 86 years young. Her vast knowledge of all the union labor contracts made her a true icon and a valuable asset in union negotiation and arbitrations. She was named the longest living contributor to the Motion Picture Television Fund, in the early 90’s, for which she was presented by Warner Brothers and the Television Fund with a plaque and her name on the marquee at the studio’s own theater on the lot in Burbank.

She was “Aunt Janie” to everyone – she gave of herself constantly, helping in anyway she could, which was considerable. She was extremely generous, patient, understanding, and full of wisdom and grace. Jane is preceded in death by her brother, William Bateman and sister, Nell Marie (Mimi) Bishop. She is survived by Patricia G. Hatch Walter, niece & William Radburn (Rad) Hatch, nephew and many loving friends and family members in both Burbank, CA and St. George, UT. She died peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2011. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will follow at the Veyo City Cemetery in Veyo, Utah. Margaret Irene Stone

St. George, Utah – Margaret Irene Loutensock Stone, age 88, passed away on June 2, 2011, at home after a long valiant battle with cancer. She was born October 12, 1922, in Los Angeles, California, to Myrtle Mott and Hyrum William Loutensock, Sr. She lived her childhood years in Payson, Utah and graduated from High School there. She met Ira Corbett Stone, Jr. (Pete) while they were living in Southern California. They were married on August 31, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They would have been married 69 years in August. After living in Illinois during WWII, Mom and Dad moved to North Hollywood, Ca., then to Canoga Park and later to Campbell, California. Mom and Dad had a great love for camping which grew to include a love for boating which resulted in two weeks every summer being spent camping with friends and relatives at Hunnington Lake, later on, Navajo Lake and Lake Powell. Mom learned to fish early on and took great delight in “out fishing” everyone! When Mom was 41, our family moved from Campbell, California to Orem, Utah. Dad finished his education at BYU and then accepted a position at Dixie College and they moved to Saint George. They lived in Hurricane for a few years while taking care of Margaret’s mother, then returned back to St. George This area has been home for 45 years. They built a cabin on Cedar Mountain and spent many fun years there working during the summer and playing with children and grandchildren. Later on they spent their summers hosting campgrounds in Wyoming on the Snake River, Flaming Gorge, and Mt. Baker in Washington. Mom loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Holidays were always centered around family get-togethers whether in the mountains, at a lake, or at home. Many special memories were made for all of us to enjoy. Margaret was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings which included Relief Society President, Ward and Stake Young Women’s President, and Stake Camp Director. She loved working with the Young Women. After moving to Hurricane, she got very involved in the Genealogy Extraction Program which spawned a love for Genealogical work which didn’t cease until a month ago when her body would no longer allow her to get to the computer to work. She has spent countless hours researching and working on family lines. Mom is survived by her husband, Ira Corbett Stone, Jr., daughter Denise and son-in-law Jim McArthur, and son-in-law Richard Horsley, 18 grand-children (plus 18 spouses), and 53 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia Gai Horsley, and daughter Sandra Jeanne Otterstrom Price, sons-in-law Tom Otterstrom and Albert Price, grandson Robert Otterstrom; her brother Hyrum W. Loutensock, Jr. and brother Jack (John) Loutensock, and her parents. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011 at 11:00 am in the St. George LDS Second Ward Chapel, 166 South Main. A visitation will be held Sunday evening from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Monday, prior to the services, from 9:30 am to 10:30 amat the Chapel. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. We love you Mom and will miss you greatly!

Michael Daniel Beardshear

Santa Clara, Utah – Dan Beardshear, 75, passed away May 29, 2011 in Santa Clara, Utah. He was born May 24, 1936 to Kay Beardshear and Mary Eileen Teurman. Dan married Myrna in Palm Springs, CA on June 28, 1997.

Raised in Hayden, Colorado, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corps in 1953. While in the Marines Corps, he served his country honorably in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from the military, Dan served as an alcohol and drug addiction counselor and interventionist.

He was loved by his wife, Myrna; five children; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters. Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Ronald Wood Jensen

Ronald Wood Jensen, 82 passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in St George. He was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Holden to Harold and Grace Wood Jensen.

He is survived by his wife, Janeen Broderick; son Steven (Jolene); daughters Debbie (Stephen Bettinson), Julie (Doug Christian) and Valerie (Bruce Sloan); 30 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, brothers Alan (Christie) and Richard (Joann), and sisters Maureen McCoy and Virginia (Val Sorensen), sister-in-law Beth (Ralph) He is preceded in death by wife, Sharon Gayle; daugh¬ter Shirlena Joy; and sons Michael Ray, Thomas Dean and Donald William, brothers Evan (Viva), Ralph (Beth), Ross and brother-in-law John McCoy (Maureen) .

Ron always had a desire to learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. From 1948 to 1950  he served in the LDS Centeral Atalantic States Mission. He held many church callings throughout his life, including Elders Quorum President, Sunday School Teacher, Home Teacher, and Ward Clerk.

He attended the temple where he spent many hours serving the Lord.  In his later years he was able to attend the St George Temple often for his ancestors. His joy came from serving others. His life was dedicated to the Lord.

From 1951 through 1953 he served as a radar technician in the US Army guarding our nation which took him to many places including Fort Bliss – El Paso, Texas and Washington DC. He enjoyed guarding our nation’s capital.

His greatest happiness was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He has left a legacy of unconditional love. 

A viewing will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St George. Interment will take place in the Delta Cemetery in Delta on Monday at 1 p.m.

LaDawn Porter Gubler

LaDawn Porter Gubler passed away peacefully on Friday June 10, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born September 16, 1932 in Provo, Utah on her oldest sister’s 12th birthday to Omni and Hattie Roberts Porter. She went to Franklin Elementary and Dixon Jr. High in Provo then moved with her family to St. George in 1946. There she attended Woodward Jr. High School and graduated from Dixie Jr. College. She attended Falcon School of Dance in Hollywood, CA for one year. She taught Tap and Ballet dancing in St. George with Reynolds Johnson. She also taught dancing in Enterprise, Springdale and Toquerville. She also worked as a telephone operator and as a secretary in the Mountain Bell Telephone office.

DeLoy Gubler and LaDawn were married in the St. George Temple on August 6, 1955. They are the parents of eight children. After their children were raised DeLoy and LaDawn moved to Apple Valley and lived there for 15 years and loved to entertain family and friends, then moved to Ivins, UT in 2005, where she worked as a crossing guard for Red Mountain Elementary for several years. Each child held a special place in her heart.

LaDawn worked as Washington County Senior Citizen Coordinator from 1982 until 1996. She made many lasting friends there. After her retirement she and DeLoy served a LDS Mission on the Navajo Indian Reservation. They served a second mission at the LDS Warm Springs Resort in Moapa, NV.

LaDawn has been an active church member all her adult life. Her favorite church callings were Activity Committee Chairman, Gospel Doctrine teacher and teaching in Primary. She loved dancing, riding horses, frequent trips to the ‘hot pots’ at Truth or Consequences, New Mexico and raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren. She loved serving others and had unconditional love for everyone she came in contact with.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son Chad; sister Fontella Porter Nuttall and brother Danny Porter.

She is survived by her husband, DeLoy; children Natalie Andrus, Bernadine (Billy) Leon, Jeannie (Dar) Atwood, Claude (Jami) Gubler, Rachel (David) Heinrich, Ben (Gia) Gubler, Shay Gubler, 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and her sister Luana Porter Bunnell.

LaDawn’s mission statement: “Buy punch from every Kool-Aid vendor. It makes the child selling it very happy. I never ask for my money back when I have to throw the punch out down the road because it is too weak and too warm.”
Her motto: “Live, love, laugh, learn.”

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Dixie Regional Medical Center CVU for the care and compassion that was shown her while she was ill.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, June 15th from 6 to 8pm at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., Saint George, UT. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16th at 11:00 am at the St. George 10th Ward Chapel, 591 West 500 North, preceded by a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Ivin’s City Cemetery.

Ross Anthony Critchfield

Anthony Critchfield, 29, died Friday June 17, 2011 in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

He was born January 26, 1982 in Payson, Utah to Ross A. and Lisa Critchfield. Anthony graduated from Summit High School in 2000.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was ordained to the office of Teacher in the Aaronic priesthood.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends and playing with his niece and nephews. He was really great with the little kids in his life. He enjoyed them and they loved him.

Anthony is survived by his parents Ross A. and Lisa Critchfield, four sisters: Nicole (Jason) Barney, Heidi (Brad) Snelgrove, Melissa Critchfield, and Kirstin (Jay) Greenhalgh, 5 nephews and 1 niece. He is also survived by two sets of grandparents: Ross and Berneil Critchfield, Carnell and Verla Hatch, and Great-grandma Berneice Robinson. He is also survived by his girlfriend Kristy Cook and her son Zayden Cook.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Knoll Park Church located at 160 South 460 West, Salem, Utah. Friends and family may call from 9am until 10:30am. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.

Edwin O. Collette

Edwin O. Collette, 73, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at his home, in New Mexico.  Edwin “Bud” Collette was born May 18, 1938 to David Edwin Collette and Izetta Coila Owen in Montana. He served in the US Air Force and while on leave, he met Claree Andra Williams and fell in love. They were married in The St. George, Utah Temple for a time and all eternity on December 29, 1959. They resided in Las Vegas, NV where they raised 5 children. He then moved to Carlsbad 3 years ago after his wife’s death. Bud and Claree spent 49 years together in this life and are now reunited to spend eternity with each other. Bud was nicknamed for his loving and friendly nature. He never met a stranger and was a “Bud” to everyone he came across. He loved spending time with his family and his dog, Oscar. His steadfast devotion to his family and his Heavenly Father was an example to all who were lucky enough to know him. His example lives on in his children and grandchildren and he will never be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his wife and parents. Bud is survived by his daughters: Coila Boatman and Kiffanie (Andrew) Twitchell of Carlsbad, NM and Cammy (Timothy) Lwinski of Pahrump, Utah; sons: Kirk (Tori) Collette of Vernal, Utah and Brandon (Laura) Collette of Las Vegas, NV.

Funeral services will be held Thurs. Jun. 23, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the West Funeral Home Chapel, New Mexico. There will be a viewing Saturday, June 25, 2011, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George. Interment will take place following the viewing at the Hurricane City Cemetery in Hurricane, Utah.

Aaron James Boyd

Aaron James Boyd passed away June 16th 2011.  He was born in St. George, Utah on February 28th 1988.

He was the wonderful son of James & Sylvia Boyd.   He was the little brother of Amanda Hansen.   Aaron was born with bright blue eyes and a contagious smile that captured the hearts of everyone he met throughout his short life.   He attended Pine View High School and graduated in 2006 from Tuacahn School of the Performing Arts.

Aaron lived his life with a huge heart, enthusiasm and staggering energy.  He was always first to volunteer if a job needed to be done or if someone needed a hand.   Aaron’s profession was a commercial driver delivering goods and product throughout Utah.  There’s nothing he couldn’t drive or make go fast.   He could make a snowmobile dance or jump a motorcycle across the sky.  He loved wakeboarding, snowboarding and hiking.   He seemed to enjoy most any high energy activity that made a parents heart pause, Aaron was fearless.  Then he had an unbelievable softer, deep passionate side he shared with anyone he knew.  He especially loved young people and children and enjoyed making them smile.

He is survived by his parents, James and Sylvia Boyd of St. George, UT and sister, Amanda (Sean) Hansen, of Henderson, NV; grandparents, Ebert and Gladys Smith of Sun City West,  AZ.

Merrill Wesley Beck

MERRILL WESLEY BECK – Of St. George, Utah, Born 26 Oct. 1922, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Wesley Julius Beck and Sarah Atwood, passed away at 88 years old on June 8th, 2011.

He attended school thru High School in Pleasant Grove and continued his education at Henager Business College. He worked for 20 years at Salt Lake Union Stockyards, and then purchased the Stockyards. Three years of his life were spent in Military Service in the South Pacific at Biak Island, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He married Mary Marcia Daley on Oct. 14, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Married 68 years.

Merrill enjoyed many years in the construction business building homes, businesses and doing concrete work. As an active member of the LDS faith, Merrill was privileged to have many years working with Scouts and was honored by the National Association. For over five years he was Bishop of the Bountiful 44th Ward and loved this calling and the association of many lie-long friends made at that time.

Merrill and Marcia served a mission to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1981- 1982. Merrill was adept at all sports and loved his companions at Basketball, Handball, Racquetball, Tennis, Softball, Baseball, Bowling, Fishing, Hunting, and card games. Merrill was regarded as one of Utah’s best softball pitchers for many years. With an excessive competitive spirit, he was good at all of the sports.

Merrill was preceded in death by his twin sister Maurine Jorgensen, his parents, his older brother Reed and younger sister Ardena and his only daughter Myrna Beck Dee. He is survived by his wife Marcia Daley Beck, his sons Dennis (Jolene) and Gary (Julene), a brother Douglas Beck; also fifteen grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

There will be a viewing Sunday, June 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff Street, St. George. On Monday, June 13th there will be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, UT. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, with a viewing prior to services from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will take place in the Bountiful Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS General Missionary Fund.

Marion Kay Alexander

Marion Kay Alexander, age 89, passed away of causes incident to age, June 21, 2011 in St. George, Utah. He was born April 24, 1922, at Sego, Grand County, Utah. His parents were Marion Edgar Alexander and Velora Hyatt. He married Rovenna Perry, April 18, 1944, in Elko, Elko County, Nevada. She died January 1, 1960. They had a daughter, Patsy Kay Alexander Kunz. He married Reva Burrows December 29, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Kay’s family moved to Roosevelt, Utah where he attended grade school and graduated from high school. His father ran a trucking business, Kay being one of the drivers, hauling coal, groceries, cattle, etc. Kay later moved to Bingham, Utah and worked at the Kennecott Copper Mining Company. When World War II started in 1940, Kay did not want to be drafted, so he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After two years in the Navy, he returned to Roosevelt working with his dad and ran a service station in Myton, Utah, a few miles from Roosevelt. Kay, his wife and daughter, later moved to Richfield, Utah where he built a Dairy Queen, and also one in Beaver, Utah. His wife was ill and he had to sell both businesses and move to Salt Lake City, where she died after a long illness. After marrying Reva, he worked for and retired from Questar Gas in Salt Lake City for twenty-five years.

Kay loved business, finances, the stock market, traveling with their fifth wheel, hiking all the trails in the many parks, visiting Europe, taking cruises, was a great visitor and wrote and typed his life story.

He is survived by his wife, Reva; daughter, Pat of Logan, UT; two grandchildren, Stephanie of Idaho and Joshua of Salt Lake City; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Earl of Vernal, UT and Robert Gail of Cedar Park, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, four brothers, one sister and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. at the Morningside LDS Chapel, 879 S. River Rd., St. George. There will be a viewing on Friday, June 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, and also Saturday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Chapel. Interment will take place Saturday, at 4:00 p.m. at the Hatch Cemetery, Hatch, UT.
